Allen Iverson, born in Hampton in 1975, played at the renowned Georgetown University under coach John Thompson.

In 1996, he became eligible for the NBA Draft and was selected first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers.

It was immediately clear that Philly would be his home.
Being a ROOKIE brought with it the usual challenges, but Iverson faced them with determination.

He quickly formed a strong connection with teammate Jerry Stackhouse and it soon became obvious to everyone that the ROOKIE of the Year title was his.

He closed his first season with an impressive average of 23.5 points per game!
